About the branch

UNISON is the recognised trade union that represents all support staff in Teesside University such as cleaning, security, administrative, professional and technical. We negotiate for better pay and conditions, help individuals in trouble and campaign for a safer, fairer society…. UNISON is a democratic organisation and is governed by members for members.

The Teesside University branch is one of 64 branches that constitute the Northern Region and we are allied to other public sector workers such as police civilian staff, transport, utilities, NHS and local government.

Membership

  • If I join today can you represent me straight away?

You will need to have been a member for at least four weeks to qualify for some of our benefits and help. If the matter were to escalate to the extent that a union official (or solicitor) needed to become involved, the following rule is strictly applied. Section K 2 (i) of the UNISON Rule Book says “The member must have been in membership of the union for at least 4 weeks prior to the incident or occurrence that leads to her/him seeking legal assistance from the Union.“. The rule also applies to members who have 4 weeks, or more, arrears of subscriptions.
